Back when I used to VJ on a Mac, I built a laptop tray to protect the thunderbolt ports & to hold some USB hubs. Later on, I added an enclosure for my eGPU (Akitio Node Pro) so I could do real graphics work with my Mac & take it to events. After a few events, the unit became too cumbersome to carry places, so now it just lives on my desk 🙂
The project involved 3D modeling, 3D printing, custom T-slot aluminum channels, and custom laser-cut acrylic sheets. If dropped from a two-story window, I have no doubt it would puncture a car roof – this thing is heavy!
